Many MANY thanks to BrooklynVegan for generously getting me into this show tomorrow night. I definitely wanted to check it out already, but if it wasn't for BrooklynVegan I probably would have been too lazy to get my ass down there.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! RADIOHEAD - UPCOMING US TOUR!! - 2006

Greenplastic, one of the better Radiohead related resources online, has started posting confirmed and unconfirmed tour dates for an impending Radiohead Tour of the US. Keep checking back here and on Greenplastic for more info on dates, cities, tickets, and presales.
UPCOMING! DUNGEN - IRVING PLAZA - 6/10/06

Ever since I saw these guys at Maxwells I've been somewhat of an addict. Though, the last time I saw then, at Bowery, they didn't sound too great. Regardless, tickets are on sale.
UPCOMING! FANTOMASMELVINS BIG BAND - IRVING PLAZA - 5/15/06

I checked out Robert Pollard at Irving Plaza the other day and, on the 'upcoming shows between bands' projection, noticed an announcement for an upcoming FantomasMelvins Big Band show on 5/15/06. Now, the show isn't currently listed on Ticketmaster or on the Irving Plaza website. Oddly enough the show IS listed on CitySearch.
I have faith this show is definitely happening because, two days later, The Melvins are playing live soundtracks to the films of Cameron Jamie at Symphony Space.See ya there, jerks!
UPCOMING! GENERAL PATTON VS. THE X-ECUTIONERS - DALEK - IRVING PLAZA - 5/14/06

Honestly, I am not too familiar with General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners but I am very much into Mike Patton's various projects throughout the years and thus refuse to miss this show. I have the sinking feeling this show will sell out and am wondering why I am sitting on my ass writing this blog and not ordering tickets. Tickets are currently on sale, so get cracking.

* Update... Dalek is one of the special guests!

REVIEW! DAVID GILMOUR - RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL - 4/5/06

On Wednesday evening I had the good fortune to see David Gilmour at Radio City Music Hall. I was in Row RR in section 4, dead center. I am still reeling from the experience and am having a hard time just organizing my thoughts on the experience, so in lieu of a blow-by-blow review of the show, here are some highlights.
  • Richard Wright was on keyboards, which I wasn't expecting. I haven't read reviews of other Gilmour shows as I didn't want to spoil this show with preconceived expectations, so Wright's inclusion in the band was a wonderful surprise.

  • Dick Parry was on sax. Yes, the man that made Us and Them the truly incredible song that it is was there in the flesh.

  • David Gilmour wailed on the sax as well. Didn't see THAT coming.

  • David Crosby and Graham Nash came out for a few songs.

  • During the second set, David's choice of Floyd songs was incredible. He avoided many of they usual tunes such as Money and opted for some very surprising choices such as Wots...Uh The Deal from Obscured By Clouds, Wearing the Inside Out from The Division Bell, and Coming Back to Life from The Division Bell.

  • THEY PLAYED ECHOES!

The show was just incredible. Awesome song choices, awesome rhythm section, amazing lighting, lazers, and fog and it couldn't have happened at a better venue.
UPCOMING! PATTON OSWALT & AZIZ ANSARI - MO PITKINS NYC - 4/10/06

I can't wait for this show. Feck. Aziz Ansari and Patton Oswalt are going to be performing on the same bill at Mo Pitkins here in NYC. Unbelievably Tickets are only $6.00 and there are going to be some super special guests to boot. With the April Comedians of Comedy tour dates fast approaching, I am wondering if this show might turn into a pre Comedians of Comedy warm-up gig complete with a Eugene Mirman and perhaps a Brian Posehn appearnce.... Who knows. Either way, I'll be there sucka!!

UPCOMING! PELICAN, MONO - AVALON NYC - 5/9/06

HOLY SHITBALLS. NYC's Avalon strikes again with yet another unbelievable offering for the month of May, PELICAN. I have been dying to see Pelican for quite a while and am really cranked that just a few days after the Isis show I will have my chance. Buy tickets HERE

Rumor has it that Avalon was shut down during a city drug/gay/narc sting thing, but reports indicate Avalon will re-open in time for these gigs. Who the fuck knows.
UPCOMING! ISIS, DALEK, ZOMBI - AVALON NYC - 5/4/06

THIS IS HUGE. Avalon NYC, formerly Limelight, will host one of my current favorite bands out there, ISIS. Avalon, which seems to exist with the sole purpose of competing with the lauded Bowery Presents shows has finally given me a reason to check out their post-Limelight situation.

REVIEW! DREAM THEATER - RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL - 4/1/06

(Above pic not from actual show)

On Saturday evening I checked out Dream Theater at Radio City Music Hall. A show of that calibur and scope is really difficult, for me at least, to review and I am sure there are hundreds of great reviews online at the moment that are better than anything I'd come up with. Dream Theater fans are dedicated and more often than not extremely intelligent people so I won't waste time competing with their insight.

But I do have a few comments for the curious and those who like stream of conscious writing. First off, I had a seat in the tenth row towards the left and couldn't have been happier. I am slightly taller than a lot of people so it was no problem getting a clear and unobstructed view of the stage from where I was. I thought the addition of the orchestra for the second set was incredible. A lot of people are complaining that the orchestra couldn't be heard, but I thought they sounded clear and wonderful. There were a few moments when James Labrie's voice didn't quite hit those high notes. I can forgive him for this considering he's been doing it for 20 years, but I am a little nervous it won't work well for the DVD they were recording. Speaking of the DVD.... at one point John Petrucci's guitar cut out for literally a few minutes. Again, this makes me nervous for the DVD. I am wondering if they will have to re-record that part for the DVD. It will sound quite ridiculous with that gap. Oh, and I missed out on getting a Radio City shirt. Sadness. There were a lot fewer digital cameras and cell phones in the air during the show thank god.... I had a phenominal time. And that's all
