PANDA BEAR - BOWERY BALLROOM - 6/23/07

Panda Bear @ Bowery 6.18.07 (CRED)

Last night I went to Panda Bear's second of two sold out shows at Bowery Ballroom and have to say that the live experience really overshadowed the album experience. He did the tunes from Person Pitch (and then some), but the tunes were tweaked, either in small ways, or in huge ways, and it felt to me like every song was significantly better than the album. His singing was superb and the audio-visual additions worked so well with the music. The back-drop projections featured an array of imagry ranging from pornographic collage, a head-banger pounding some drums in the middle of a rocky wasteland, people freaking out at a stadium, and many other very abstract scenes. It was a lot of fun and exceeded any expectations I had going into the show. I feel fortunate to have seen this show as there are currently no other tour dates on the horizon and the dude lives in Lisbon. However, if he ever ends up in your neighborhood GO!

SOMETHING THAT MADE ME LAUGH
Thanks Joe Mande!

UPCOMING - SOUTH TOWARD HOME BENEFIT
SOUTHPAW, BROOKLYN * * * 7/12/07 * * *

Feat. TINKLE with DAVID CROSS, TODD BARRY, AND JON BENJAMIN

If you think New Orleans and its surrounding areas are even remotely back to normal since Hurricane Katrina, you're out of your fucking mind. Ignored by our own government and basically left to try to pick up the pieces on their own, the Gulf Coast region is still in shambles.

Luckily organizations like South Towards Home are busting their asses to keep the spirit of renewal alive and active.

Brooklyn's Southpaw will play host to a South Towards Home comedy benefit on 7/12/07. Guests include David Cross, Todd Barry, and Jon Benjamin. Tickets are $25.00. That line-up is worth the ticket price alone. The fact that it's going to such a good cause makes it even better. So go! Donate! Fucking do something!

RIP JOHN PIKE
Ra Ra Riot Drummer Passes Away In Mass.

The drummer from Ra Ra Riot died this weekend in Fairhaven Massachusetts (which, incidentally, is down the road from where I grew up). It's weird because I was sort of getting into this band recently and was thinking of checking out the Tokyo Police Club / Ra Ra Riot show at the Bowery Ballroom on August 10th.

Leave condolences here. More news can be found:

Maybe it's because I was JUST starting to dig this band or maybe it's because a friend of mine died in almost the exact same circumstances at around the same age some years back; either way, this is a bummer.
